So what is soft washing?

Soft washing is the process of cleaning exterior surfaces with low pressure and a high volume of water flow. Specific chemicals and detergents are used to clean varying surfaces. Soft washing can be performed with different types of pumps and equipment.

What can or should be soft washed?

The simple answer is that anything exterior except for concrete should be soft washed. This means roofs of all types, painted surfaces, stucco, vinyl soffit and siding, delicate stone, composite decks and docks, wood, and much much more. You should never pressure wash these delicate surfaces, if its not concrete it shouldn't be pressure washed. Too much pressure can cause permanent and serious damage to any of these surfaces.

Not all soft wash providers are the same

Many people that offer pressure washing services will claim to offer soft washing. Because soft washing involves chemicals and detergents its easy to obtain the weaker household versions of those and apply them with a pump up sprayer. They may also claim to soft wash by dispensing these chemicals through their pressure washer detergent tank or injector. Unfortunately when you dispense detergents in this manner it dilutes them to the extreme and they are often ineffective.
